Some children's encyclopaedia with different countries, preferably with numbers rather than walls of text. I used to pore over statistics like territory and cars owner per capita as a child. Children seem to have a hard time concentrating on a long text, but bits of information that you can browse in any order are perfect. Be careful not to turn the child into an anthropologist though.
Also children's books about various wars, preferably with tables of casualties and some neat pictures. Avoid recent wars like WWII or premodern wars, as these are too engaging and the child will eventually come upon them in pop culture anyway. E.g., a book about Britain's wars in the 18th century would be perfect.
