I don't know Markell personally and don't really work in his area, but his problems in becoming troll fodder at places like this clearly began with this survey: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.851.3644&rep=rep1&type=pdf. After being labeled as the "most important theorist working today" he would inevitably be tormented in places like this, regardless of how his work would evolve. Without trying to offend the author of that survey, I think asking that particular question was a very bad idea.
