If there's literally "nothing we can do to make our days on earth one second longer or shorter," how do we avoid the hyper-Calvinist conclusion that *everything* is predetermined, including each of our eternal fates? And in that case, who cares whether your actions are "godly" are not, since those actions merely (dis)confirm your predestined status and having no bearing whatsoever on your salvation -- or, to put it bluntly, who gives a flying füçk?
