2019-20 Theory Market
-
Wheaton College (IL) has just posted a TT job in political theory. How conservative is this place? My work critically deals with Marx, Nietzsche, and Foucault. Do I have any chance for this position?
You’re a lock for the job. The world is desperate for someone, anyone, to discuss Marx, Nietzsche, and Foucault. Blazing a new path with work like this is what political theory is supposed to be about.

Honestly, the religious identity of this place is not about your work and more about your bona fides as an actually religious person. As with any LAC, your work will need to attract the idiosyncratic tastes of the committee. (I have an acquaintance from grad school who's a hard-core leftist feminist into Derrida, etc, and they love her because she openly religious and has always been a churchgoer.) You'll need to sign the statement of faith, and you'll probably need a reference from your pastor. They don't want anyone who's not actively, seriously, religious, and it's not just a formality.
