There are some job openings at teaching institutions but nobody wants to be there. Better to be in the data analysis section at an insurance company.
Really, after spending 5-7 years working on a PhD in political science the typical recipient of that degree nowadays in the U.S. would rather work in data analysis at an insurance company than teach 3 or 4 political science classes per semester at a 4-year college?
If you are right, there is one massive and serious mismatch between the career a political science PhD prepares you for versus what recipients of a political science PhD want to do.
