What's the last word?
APSA 2021 online or in person?
-
They plan it to be in person, but I really hope it'll be hybrid: for those who can travel, meet in person by all means; but for those of us who cannot due to a number of reasons, why not make it hybrid so we can participate too! The technology is there, works well, and is often more efficient than in-person meetings.
A hybrid format should be the default for all conferences from now on. It will address health concerns, and boost attendance.

They will be posting a set of math word problems online and asking conference attendees to choose the best multiple choice answer to each problem, e.g. Two prisoners are being held in separate cells and here is the dilemma...etc.
It will be the most well received and intellectually rich APSA in years because it perfectly reflects our discipline.

If they can't learn from last year's disaster and avoid an in-house platform, then you shouldn't expect them to be competent enough to make an in-person conference work either.
you expect them to organize that well?
Correct take.
Online or hybrid would work well if they just rely on Zoom. But this will be a(nother) disaster if they try to rig some in-house videoconferencing platform. -

I don't think they can manage a hybrid conference given they botched an all online one and the in person ones are just average.

Are we always going to have health concerns that warrant video conferencing?
I get it conferences are expensive. But there is value in attending. Honestly, the book fair is my favorite.
Online attendance would increase numbers, but wont do much for the conference. People aren't going to may more than about $50 to attend an online conference.
