APSR publishing op-eds on Indian politics now

published under the current team will be heavily discounted.
lol, do you really believe that? this has never happened in the history of the discipline. completely unrealistic that anyone sees journal title and starts thinking who was editor at that specific time
If pubs under the current team aren’t discounted, why hasn’t Hat Trick Holman been poached by Harvard etc yet? Pubs under the current team are definitely being discounted in real time by search committees. It’s true that in the long run no one will remember who published what when, but by that point the professional gains from pubs do not come from venue but from cites.

Even if this currently is the case, it won't matter in 10 years if you had an APSR in 2017 or 2021. People don't have memories that good and won't look into it in that much detail. Try to remember if any of the top 3 had a really bad team at any point more than 10 years ago, and when exactly. Can you remember? Of course you can't.

In ten years, no one will be getting hired based on pubs from 2021.

I have never published anything with the current editors, but I have a question for those who complain about them.
If it's so laughably easy to publish gar/bage there, why don't you submit your low quality work and get published? Should be pretty easy, no?Because I was trained in the standards of the discipline. The current team rewards people who were not trained in PS standards.

I am on a search committee for an American Politics position at a middling R1 and the comment above is 100% accurate. Recent APSRs are not automatically discounted relative to an AJPS or JOP, but we scrutinize those articles more closely, knowing the strong biases at work in the editorial process there right now. I have had three separate conversations with people at higher ranked departments than ours who are thinking the same way.
