Hi all,
A student of mine -econ, latin america- is applying to top ten public policy PHd programs in the US. I think he is aiming too high. He has a masters in Economics and a few local publications, but his math is not that good, which disqualifies him for a good PhD in econ.
Looking for advise on a PhD program in public policy that a) is not too hard to get in and b) is not a scam: graduates do publish competitively.
He has a fellowship from an international institution, so funding does not matter.
thanks in advance
Are there any Econ PhD programs for folks who are "bad Math" ???

UMass

Utah
UMKC
NSSR
You do know these are very specialized programs in Econ? Fit is much more important at UMass, Utah, NSSR, UMKC, and American. Doesn’t help if you want to be a mainstream guy in one of these progressive left/radical departments. Doesn’t mean he or she will be able to avoid those core courses with the math prerequisite at one of these places. He’ll tap out before he can get to the dissertation part to finish.
