I vote Moravscik. He may still be right about the origins of the EU, but he has been shilling the idea that the EU is the super-power of the future, as long as we slightly alter our ideas about what makes a super-power a little, for some time now. He had some pretty good stats to back it up, relying on things like GDP, etc.

That all takes a kick straight to the nads, though, with Britain out. The EU went to bed with a 16 Trillion dollar economy, and woke up with a 14 trillion dollar one. That is a major hit, and it likely won't stop until the fallout from Britain's withdrawal--which absolutely wasn't hedged against--shakes out over the next couple of years. If Britain walks it off and regains some of its sovereignty in the process, you could see more countries taking a pass on the "European Dream."

Plenty of Political Science predicted the eventual crackup of Europe. Another thread talks about how Mearsheimer has predicted it so relentlessly that eventually he had to be right, but he was far from the only one. If you take nationalism seriously, or social ties, then there are strong implications that Europe as a project is doomed.

Just because Larry and you (apparently) are ignorant of those scholars doesn't mean they aren't there.

Actually, a serious answer to this would be those academics working on EU-funded projects in the UK. There are more than just a handful of professors whose salaries are almost entirely derived from EU-sponsored research projects who are going to see their only external funding options being the British ones very soon.

German, Dutch, and Scandinavian universities are in prime position to snatch those million euro grants for themselves now.

Not sure about this - as far as I know, funding under H2020 / ERC etc. is also available to select non-EU countries, so there shouldn't be any problems.

But then, there are probably quite a few people in Brussels right now who are thinking through a diverse range of options for sticking it to the Brits and easy access to EU funding is probably not among them.

Those are bold words coming from someone who played a key role creating bubbles, while failing to anticipate the subsequent economic crashes. Should we expect that he would have equally harsh words for economics?

Then again, it's cute that he thinks political science consists exclusively of polling and predicting election outcomes.
