Not the ones applying to your place. You're getting the CHYMPS rejects who stubbornly stayed in the program long enough to finish even though they were clearly below standard.

At my department the faculty wait until you are on the job market and are succeeding to tell everyone how wonderful you are. Leeches i tell you.

I'm at a very low-ranked R1. We hired an IR "theorist" as a spousal. He was free. Well, he now has tenure, and he's a nightmare. He's blowing up the program.
