Good enough for tenure at most schools? Anyone have experience publishing with them?

The answer always depends on where you are and how much they like you.
At my SLAC, it might yield issues in the T/P process. Not necessarily a deal-breaker, but it would raise some real questions about the quality of the scholarship. Better to publish with a UP when you're a junior.
Respectable enough post-tenure?

Respectable enough post-tenure?This is true. I was speaking only for my SLAC. It might be fine at some LACs. But even if they "like you", a trade press is never as strong as a UP. Especially when it gets beyond the dept level, up to the T/P committee, provost, president, trustees, etc.
