After BU posted their International Security job, I checked their faculty CVs. I have an unequivocally better CV than all of their assistant professors except the one that has a Cambridge book. Also, I got my PhD after all of them. Yet, I have almost no chance of even getting an interview there.
-Just another frustrated post-doc on the market for the third time.
Why on earth would you think that your CV is better? Everyone at BU has been publishing despite a 3-3 load, summer teaching, and 2 hours commute every day. Your post suggests that you are too immature to even understand the basic demands of this job. Nobody gets hired based on postdoc privilege with no teaching or service.
Even with a 2-2 load, this post is still valid. It takes a lot of time to self govern a department, operate student clubs, run searches, etc. once you get past the top 20 programs service expectations start to increase
