Paul Gottfried’s book on this topic has to be required reading for anyone who is serious
Check out Umberto Eco's list of the 14 traits of "ur fascism."
-
Egalitarianism is the oldest tradition
The Supreme Court is fascist because it *checks notes* has a cult of tradition.
The Democratic party is fascist because it *checks notes* objects to overturning Roe because doing so would be overturning a 50 years old tradition.
Hey, this is fun. EVERYONE is fascist under your reading of these rules.

Hey, this is fun. EVERYONE is fascist under your reading of these rules.Fun fact: Eco proposed 14 traits in common to 'ur-fascism.'
Not just one.

Slightly longer post on the topic.

Also, the difference between the modern "far right" and fas cism has been addressed a while ago in a famous article (and probably before that): https://ejpr.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1475-6765.1992.tb00303.x
The cases there are a lot more right-wing than trumpism (e.g., openly ethnonationalist or able to trace connections to historical fas cists). In this you say "E.g., tru mpism is more tolerant of difference"
Are you not familiar with how Trump treats those inside the GOP who disagree with him?

Hey, this is fun. EVERYONE is fascist under your reading of these rules. Why, it’s as if Umberto Eco is not even a respected analyst of fascism and ignores its history!

^ Yeah, well, the OP claimed all 14 applied to Trump. I've already shown that 2 of them don't, and one (tradition) is so loosely worded that it applies to any sort of established institution.
I see. So -- in your view -- Trump merely meets 11.5 (82%) of Eco's definition, which makes him not a fascist?

Where did I ever say the other 11 applied to Trump?

Trump started in the wars, sought no lebensraum, called for more legal immigration, built no corporate estates: not fascist.
Vague generalities about tradition or whatever or meaningless. Umberto Eco is all about fields: he feels like something I don’t like it feel so bad

Vague generalities about tradition or whatever or meaningless. Umberto Eco is all about fields: he feels like something I don’t like it feel so badTrump attempted to overthrow the government because he lost an election, he routinely deployed white supremacist ideology and rhetoric, he called for violence against his opponents, he insisted that he and he alone could solve all problems in the country, and he built a powerful personality cult around himself.
Just because you don't like your personal feeling the Trump was a fascist does not mean that he wasn't one.
