Sure. But she'd been trying for almost ten years to find a UP to publish her book, some people pulled strings to get her that diversity fellowship so RSF would publish it. The book was not a new project, it was literally her dissertation turned into a book.
I'm a grad student at a university in the 30-40 range. How do people get hired at top universities with zero publications? Isn't that a huge red flag? Shouldn't people doing even the bare minimum have at least one co-authored paper at a mediocre journal by the time they finish?
I feel like I'm going to get stiffed on the market even though I have two publications and two years to go because of my school's rank. Meanwhile people with zero output get hired at top schools.
