In a rational (communist) world people could stay home without becoming bankrupt, destitute. Capitalism is going to directly kill untold millions.
Coronavirus Shows Capitalism is Profoundly Irrational and Deadly
-
If people receive robust health care, the morality rate from coronavirus is about 1 percent. We need a public global health care system, with a huge expansion of infrastructure. This way we don't have to worry much about transmission.
The absence of such an approach means the world will continue to cycle through coronavirus crises -- massively disrupting the world economy, health care, and lives, along with high morality rates from a break down of the health care system.

There's been no disruption from COV19 directly. The disruption comes from the irrational response.

Only 4000 people died in China. Their healthcare system ain't that great. where do you get this stuff?
The Chinese were very aggressive in confronting the virus -- including building two hospitals virtually overnight. This is a reason that Trump supporters are so defensive -- because China acted while Trump and Republicans did nothing or made money from the crisis.
-
Where do you come up with this "tens of millions" will d13 stat?
If the global health care system collapses, then the results will be vast, dire, and unknowable.
I don't think cobbling together a couple hospitals at the last minute quite brings the Chinese system up to a "robust healthcare system" that you're calling for.
The hospitals demonstrates that the Chinese government was/is serious in confronting the crisis -- something the U.S. has yet to show.

Why would the US healthcare system collapse?
50k died of influenza last year--I don't recall predictions of a collapse.
Seems to me like you're just fear mongering, and THAT is the actual threat--scaring people into running to the ER cause they have a sore throat...

Seventy-five million Americans live in states that have imposed shutdowns of most businesses and social activities. Hundreds of millions of people are terrified about their jobs, their families, their children, wondering if they will even be able to purchase basic necessities, let alone get adequate medical care. Patients with other life-threatening illnesses are worried that they will not be able to get needed treatment and surgeries as the hospitals are overwhelmed. The psychological impact is incalculable.
-
Right now the U.S. has about 900K hospital beds -- mostly filled at any given time. A huge surge of coronavirus serious cases will result in health care chaos -- as we're already starting to see.
Currently there are 20,000 COV19 infections in the US
Of those, only 64 are considered critical.
Youre saying 64 extra patients would break the US healtcare system?
*yawn*
Go away now.

Currently there are 20,000 COV19 infections in the US
It is estimated that for every 1 infection identified in the U.S. 11 are actually infected. That's a low-ball estimate. In any event, following from what we know if 100 million are infected, 20 million will develop symptoms that require hospitalization. The morality rate among this group depends entirely on adequate health care.
