This is ridiculous. In terms of PhD programs, do not even try to rank these schools in a US thread. So, what are we ranking??? Prestige? Then Oxford obviously comes on top (also is on top according to ALL rankings). All the others, meh, prestige outside of Europe is meager. From Europe: Depends on where you want to live. Europeans typically remain stuck in their own country (e.g. the Swiss want to be in Switzerland, the Norwegians in Norway, and so on, yawn), which is also why the schools are not great. European countries are too small to have a big elite in their own countries. If you don't mind where to live, go to the UK. Nuffield/Oxford and LSE (in that order) do best there/in Europe, but the salaries tend to be underwhelming. But I dont think we need to warm up this old fact/discussion here...
Can we do the same for non-US countries? Obviously, their placement are all much lower than in the US. Also, they don't have coursework so placement is much more dependent on the supervisor.
That said, we still try to have a separate ranking. Some places do place people every year, whereas others only place exceptionally when there is a random good PhD student. So it's all about the frequency of placement, which tells something about the place (more about the quality of supervisor and overall prestige of the institution, but that matters):
Tier 1 (non-US)
EUI
LSE
Oxford
Zurich
Tier 2 (non US)
Essex
Konstanz
Mannheim
UCL
