I've seen a handful of cases on IPSA and elsewhere where one department will have separate announcements for multiple openings. For instance, one for a methods opening and a second announcement for a comparative politics with a regional focus. What are the norms here if I want to throw my hat in the pool for either job? Do I send two applications, or just mention in my cover letter that I want to be considered for both? I believe that the application portal is set up so you submit to a specific opening, rather than get put into a general pool.
I'm in the US, and I don't think we see this here. Departments just announce what they're looking for and, rarely, how many lines are available. My understanding is that, even if they have more than one line, all applicants come from the same pool.
