Basically, the assistant professor hiring market has become twice as long. Most departments now do two rounds of interviews: Zoom interviews for those on the "long short list," which are then used to narrow down the list to a shorter "short list" that are formally scheduled for a visit. Moreover, for departments that do these visits virtually, the interviews can stretch over several days in some cases, as they include both a job talk as well as one-on-one meetings that are often scheduled at the convenience of the interviewers (which means they can be spread across several days).
Oh, and the job talk now typically consists of two portions: A recorded ("asynchronous") talk, and a live Q&A, for which the candidate has to come back and field questions over zoom.
Ah, so much fun applying for jobs these days, compared to just two years ago...
