If one of your students is not showing up, check to make sure he/she is still alive, or healthy and not in the ICU. The young are not immune.

Why should I check on the weak? One less paper to grade.
Kids can get COVID too, and while most survive, they have long-term problems that make smokers cough seem like allergies. The whole "we don't need to worry about them, COVID is nothing for young people" argument doesn't comport with evidence to the contrary (not just this one case).
This. The heart inflammation alone should terrify anybody who cares about the futuhealth and well being of our nation. And the fact that China has emerged relatively unscathed should put some ice in your veins.

Correct take.
^ You must be a provost. Open it up, then lie when faculty, staff, and students die. A few high-level administrators died of COVID, news release denied it initially, blamed it on HIPAA. Life is cheap to these people.
We lost a dean pretty early on in this. Might correlate with my uni keeping us out of the classrooms until at least next fall.

I don’t wish death on anyone, but I can’t deny that after reading your post I started making a mental list of admins I’d most like to catch covid and die.
