Best revenge: Next time you're in Boston, knock on her door and ask for directions.
Is Maya Sen going to apologize?

Shocking, an academic who assumes that behavior in the world is gendered / LGBTQ-phobic / racist / name that tune.
Posts a gripe on Twitter, nothing interesting there, but then after dozens and dozens of "it happens to me all the time", assumes it must be gendered even though even the non systematic tweet responses show no such thing. And the other stuff in the thread, if you're working with your head down, apparently its rude to knock on your open door. If you use a trash can because it's right there and convenient, you're rude. Wow maybe we have a better understanding of what's happening.
If you are going to virtue signal and berate people for their (insert term)-ist behavior all the time, then yes you are going to be scrutinized and held to the same standard that you're constantly applying to everyone else.
Otherwise, get that chip off your shoulder and frown off your face. Or close your fukcing door you misanthrope!

I'll tell you what's annoying: disciplinary status for "discovering" the following:
1. The South is still racist, and this is connected to slavery: places that were racist as hell in the 19th century still are; and
2. Judges with daughters tend to be more feminist than those without. In a field full of no-sh!t measurement-masquerading-as-findings, these two are near the top of the heap.

Was she the one that said something to the effect of: “Students are paying to be here, so I can be polite to them even if they’re sometimes rude to me.” ?
BTW kudos to Sara Mitchell calling her out on her BS. Mitchell has done more to promote women in the discipline than MS ever will.

"Richard" gave her and her supporters an earful:
Maya Sen: promotes scholarship by “marginalized” faculty. Disdains being mistaken for “receptionist”. B/c when you are “marginalized” like Maya (child of elite academics, whole adult life spent btwn Harvard/Stanford), plebs should know better than to ask YOU for directions!
You disdain anyone daring to dispose of something in “your” trash can, yet you disdain someone thinking YOU might do “menial” work (like take out the trash?). You are too busy promoting the “marginalized” for that! When you were a kid I bet your nannys just hated you.
Ugh! White men! Using staplers! Personally I think it’s much for respectful to do that than to submit a unstapled paper folded down at the edge. As several (mostly white but also black/brown) female (but also male) students have done. But hey: white men. VOMIT! Amirite?
People asking for directions. So unfortunate! So demeaning! Don’t the plebs know we have STAFF for that? Can’t you tell them apart from us by how obviously “intersectional” WE are?
Good thing you survived to brag on Twitter about how you “chased away” a student seeking advice on how to move on with their degree! The plebs who think they are entitled to talk to YOU! Ugh! Don’t they know you are busy on Twitter defending the “marginalized” with Maya Sen!

Good for her. The only way the virtue preening stops with our current generation of young superstars is for those with actual accomplishments to call them on their crap as most of them truly have no shame. It's even better when it comes from a woman as their intrinsic reaction is to declare right-wing racism and misogyny regardless of whether it is true or not.

The best part? No one dared criticize SM. But if she had been a white guy? The pitchforks would still be out.

Also interesting that Sen has a personal trash can in her office. Lots of universities now have no trash receptacles in offices (or they just have "tiny trash" containers). They use consolidating bins, which promote better recycling and less trash production. I wonder how Sen's use of a jealously-guarded personal trash can fits with her supposedly globalized view of the world.

I was a first generation undergrad student and remember being a bit nervous on the first day of each semester during my initial year. In fact, I remember an instance where I had a class in a building I’d never entered before, and on the first day of a semester, I wandered around inside the building a bit because I wasn’t sure where to go. I popped my head into an office, and the professor smiled and walked me to where I needed to go. It made my day, and honestly helped relax my nerves. It also occupied about two minutes of the professor’s time.
