I am an undergraduate.
I was lost, couldn't find my class.
After seeing the tweet, I decided not to ask anyone.
I have now dropped out as a result.
Please, people. Be nice.
I was a first generation undergrad student and remember being a bit nervous on the first day of each semester during my initial year. In fact, I remember an instance where I had a class in a building I’d never entered before, and on the first day of a semester, I wandered around inside the building a bit because I wasn’t sure where to go. I popped my head into an office, and the professor smiled and walked me to where I needed to go. It made my day, and honestly helped relax my nerves. It also occupied about two minutes of the professor’s time.
Don’t you know that we have STAFF to do things like this? The nerve!
That Tweet was *kisses fingers*. Complaining about basic politeness. Attempting to spin the benign into gender discrimination. Obliviously dripping with privilege.
Thousands of competent PhDs are working their assessment off and getting nowhere in the job market. Many who do get a job don't even get their own office. But someone who was handed a Harvard job on a plate is bitching about giving people directions. Incredible.
Also interesting that Sen has a personal trash can in her office. Lots of universities now have no trash receptacles in offices (or they just have "tiny trash" containers). They use consolidating bins, which promote better recycling and less trash production. I wonder how Sen's use of a jealously-guarded personal trash can fits with her supposedly globalized view of the world.

Indians are very clean and do not litter. Cities like New Delhi and Bangalore are some of the cleanest in the world.
Try Japan. There is no trash can in Tokyo, Osaka, or any other city that I visited, and yet the entire country is so bleepingly clean.

Yes, it is true. I don't even know why she's advertising it on her faculty page. It is quite embarrassing. And her publication history...hardly seems worthy of Harvard.
