ISQ is the gold standard of IR scholarship.
In other words, like the gold standard, ISQ hasn't been taken seriously for decades.
It's now a journal led by regression monkeys who have few big ideas. Evidence is KW cannot get books in top presses and BP doesn't even bother. There's a place for that, but can't you get some bigger thinkers to head a top journal in IA? Or at least a head who hits top 3s on a regular basis. Just weird ISQ ended up there. And KW should be embarrassed about complaining about summer work. Don't take the job if you want to take summer off.
The fact that you call IR "IA" tells me everything I need to know about the kind of work you value.

Yeah totally weird how IR scholars ended up editing an IR journal

No. It's weird how marginal IR scholars at a marginal research university get one of the highest impact subfield journals in IR.
[And I use IR and IA interchangeably. IA is broader, both are fine]

And before you claim they are not marginal, I mean marginal for a research university. To see why, think about if we listed the IR scholars at the top 35 political science departments. Would you rank KW or BP in the top half? I doubt it. So fine records and all, but not really what you want for a top subfield journal. Just compare the editorial team to IO; they have similar impact factors and journal rankings, should have similar quality of editorial team, imho.

IO's a club. So is IS. ISQ is not. Bad comparison.
And anyway, you gave your game away with "regression monkeys." The only ISQ lead editor of the last five who wasn't a "regression monkey" was Nexon; I'll leave it to previous posters to illustrate how that went.
Let's just say you've never published there and never will, good editor or bad.

I don't know who Desch is. Regression monkeying is stats without clear theory or identification. Would prefer credible quant or big thinkers to they x y , reg robust crowd.
