   A former doctoral student at University of California, Berkeley filed a lawsuit in state court against state university officials Tuesday for what she calls “blackballing” her career after she filed a harassment complaint against a professor.

   Loan Le alleges that professor Robert Van Houweling, a member of her dissertation committee, began to “aggressively stalk” her, including lurking outside of her apartment building and sending flowers to her home.

   This could mean a wide variety of things other than actual proof.

   What's needed here (to cite one example) are bills of sale from the florist showing that Van Houweling's credit card was used, or that the phone used to place the orders was Van Houweling's. Better still would be some CCTV footage showing him at the florist placing the orders.

   No, the emails only showed that SOMEONE sent her flowers under Van Houweling's name. They don't prove who actually placed the order. It is possible that she sent flowers to herself but placed the order under Van Houweling's name.

   if the email records are from VH's account then your theory would fail. if there was an email confirmation dropping to my faculty email, saying that i sent flowers to my grad student, i would call the store and ask to cancel.
