They rarely even allow dense fourplexes. You're acting like it's Tokyo or something, which is 1/6 of LA county by square miles
That’s an interesting comparison. Tokyo has the infrastructure to support density; LA doesn’t. When you need a car for every working adult in the city, density isn’t really feasible. Look at Glendale for an example of how neighborhoods and towns are destroyed by unregulated building.

You should have seen it in 1980. It was so much nicer then, before the Armenians arrived and over-built. They tore down houses and replaced them with apartment buildings and concrete. Building code completely ignored. It’s extremely over-crowded now.
wikipedia says the Armenians came in the 1920s! The mexicans in the 80s.There was a huge influx on Armenians to LA in the late 20th century, centered on Glendale.
