That’s an interesting comparison. Tokyo has the infrastructure to support density; LA doesn’t. When you need a car for every working adult in the city, density isn’t really feasible. Look at Glendale for an example of how neighborhoods and towns are destroyed by unregulated building.
How is Glendale destroyed exactly? Seems quite nice.
You should have seen it in 1980. It was so much nicer then, before the Armenians arrived and over-built. They tore down houses and replaced them with apartment buildings and concrete. Building code completely ignored. It’s extremely over-crowded now.
wikipedia says the Armenians came in the 1920s! The mexicans in the 80s.

There was a huge influx on Armenians to LA in the late 20th century, centered on Glendale.

And?

I thought California was progressive and loved immigrants?

Oh... they want immigrants to come in and live in red states. Is that it?

The point of density is you won't need to build a lot more infrastructure because people will live close to work and play.

Higher property taxes would be needed. California should lower income taxes and raise property taxes.
But those NIMBYs do not want to pay their fair share. They like they're multi million $ homes while paying $1k or whatever in property taxes

Since you're from Glendale, what makes the 1980s the perfect decade to freeze time? What if people then didn't want to change it from the 1970s?

Is it just growth you don't like? Or do you want to live in a city with free people?

How is slow-growth activism any worse than HOAs? It's the same motivation--people wanting to preserve the character of their neighborhoods. If I buy a house in a residential neighborhood, I don't want an apartment building going up ten feet away from my house. Who would want that?
