Wow. LSU seems to be hiring for a CP TT even during COVID19. I guess someone left, or it is an inside hire. I can't even imagine how many applications they will get.
LSU Job!?

Now this is a true test of how far someone will go to have a 2-2 at, I think, an R1.
Low salary, state's going to slash education funding to shreds, super poor state decimated by the Rona that's dependent on tourist spending that won't be coming back anytime soon, some of the dumbest students you'll see outside of a community college, backwater location, horrible weather, nowhere near the beach.
But it's a 2-2 at an R1.

How do you know it's a low salary?

I imagine the salary is between 60k-75k depending on applicant quality and negotiation success. That goes a long way in the swamp. I am so bored that I checked Zillow for Baton Rouge, you can leave pretty well with that. Plus, you got exciting sports to watch, and you can golf/tennis all year round.

What is golf/tennis like in July?

That sounds about right. Thanks!

I imagine they are having some problems with work visas right now in universities. So they probably have to send out the announcement again and hire somebody who can work in the US right now. Universities are still interviewing. I've had interviews in the past few weeks and one question is usually can you work in the US legally at this time? So that might be a clue right there.

They are definitely hiring this year, interviewed four people in fall 2020, and will make offers to two. The salary isn't bad, although the real problem is that the raises are few and far between--but not bad raises when you get them. Yes, it's absolutely enough money to live pretty comfortably. Baton Rouge is a typical state capital--and the food, festivals, Mardis Gras, parades, are a draw for a lot of people. The university itself is doing ok finanially, because it has a large undergraduate class--oddly enough, it's the athletic side of things (which is entirely separate from the academic funing stream) that is struggling. Some of the students are really quite good, though some, not so much. Great Honors College. (For some reason, high school students from Louisiana often want to go to LSU--so you get both great students and not-so-great students.) Plus, the department itself is remarkably well-adjusted. It isn't for everyone, but one could do FAR worse.
