The system works everybody. Let's all go home now. Nothing to see here.
Not so much! When LV takes responsibility for any of this and returns her $200k to the Carnegie Foundation, I'll consider believing this crap. Otherwise, it is all about who is better at CYA not the system working.

Only in the minds of people whose opinions do not impact their careers or incomes. On the contrary, LV and DG's opinions about others will continue to matter when they are asked to weigh in on articles, books, grants, and discipline awards, and (outside letters) tenure and promotion.

That's not how textbook writing works. The whole industry is dying and moving to ebooks. The original authors (Jacobson Kernell) made a lot of money. The secondary authors who signed on recently are not given good contacts by the publishers.

Sadly true. They are too big to fail. Made persons in polisci. Too many people would have to admit too much for either of them to lose standing.

These books on one election do not have much shelf life. There are colleagues of hers who wrote books 10-20 years ago that are still cited. But for sure short-term visibility and sales can result.
The only thing that may hurt is her ability to place future students. Aside from that she's gonna be just fine. In fact, as an NYT columnist and the author of a forthcoming PUP book on the 2016 election her career will probably soar even higher in the coming years.
