Yeah, the issue here is this is basically a double-barreled question, it just doesn’t look like it at first because it doesn’t have “and” in it. Someone who agrees that America is changing for the worse, but doesn’t want to see force used to prevent that might end up agreeing to this statement anyways because they agree with the first half of the statement. You could literally fix this by doing a branching question. “Is America changing for the worse” if yes “would you support or oppose using force to prevent these changes?”
Also the issue raised upthread about the meaning of “force.” This is the same issue that plagues the political violence measure which Westwood grimmer et al pointed out in PNAS. People just do not have invariant definitions for things like “use of force” or “violence.”
