Eliminating theory would be a shame but it is consistent with the technocratic mindset in the discipline. Except technocrats actually accomplish something.
No more theory at JOP

In September, we were told the team would be Dr. Vera Troeger as Editor in Chief, Dr. Cameron Thies as Deputy Lead Editor and Dr. Miriam Golden, Dr. Miki Caul Kittilson, Dr. Maya Sen, Dr. Christina Schneider and Dr. Laura Valentini as Field Editors. But now we have a bunch of no names.
I was looking forward to this team...

Why is JOP considered so great? Seriously?
In the past few years it has been publishing better theory than either of the other two top three journals.
I'd go further: the Ellis/Levy era at JOP is the best run of theory in a general journal in....I don't know how long, but at least three decades.

Are you unable to comprehend past tenses?

It's funny how theory publications improve when you have an actual theorist overseeing the process. Imagine if JoP had no editors with IR backgrounds, but rather with theory backgrounds, and these editor-theorists said to the IR folk: don't worry, we got this. I'm sure that would fly.

On the one hand, I'm amused by VT's open disdain for theorists.
On the other hand, I'll be the one who will have to listen why my junior PT colleague should be tenured on the ground that she/he published an article in an edited volume at Edward Elgar, because they don't have anywhere else to publish their stuff.

Since Valentini's not doing it, who would be good choices, editors who could do a good and fair job across different areas of PT?
Looking at the ed board, I'd be delighted with Hirshmann, Hayward, Sabl, Medearis, McGilvray...others would mostly probably be fine too.
