PSR "drove him out"? If you look at his research interests, it's pretty clear he has no actual interest in politics in the first place. This career move is pretty unsurprising.
dataand*politics* I rest my case...
And, PSR has driven another fine young scholar out of the discipline. I hope you're all proud:

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!
Oh Wait. You're Serious?
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!
His starting salary is probably >100k and in a desirable city. Maybe we were mean to him, but I am 100% certain that even without all of this, he'd have made the same decision.
Probably more like > 200k. He signed a contract for an interesting job to continue to do data science. PSR has nothing to do with it, sorry boys, you're not that (self) important.
^I should add, because he has non-TT stuff lined up and may not even go on the market next year because of this. It’s so dumb the misinformation that gets posted on here.
The source of this misinformation (“Oh yeah, he’ll be leaving academia next year”) is obvious. Some people are sore losers about these things, and that just is what it is. Doesn’t change the fact that he has options through 2021 or 2022; the information above is accurate.
As for PZ, it seems like he genuinely chose to leave the academic world. He may be kind of a dick but he has a decent pub record when you keep in mind that your modal market ABD has zero.
