I'd definitely save money by staying where I am. And moving during a pandemic for a year long postdoc (maybe 2 depending on funding) seems stressful/not worth it. If I got the 2nd year, then it doesn't seem as bad.
But maybe being physically around in the academic community would be helpful?

wait until your post doc place reopens. and you do not need to be there physically bc no one cares about post docs.
My Uni is planning to be open in the Fall though. And they want all employees on campus. Unless they can cite health concerns

My sense is that most post-docs keep a low profile and aren't really part of the departmental community, though it depends on the institution and the personality of the prof who's in charge. Chances are you could stay put but stop by a few times for a few days each time.
