Between what's happening in Arizona and Trump's increasingly loud threats to form a third party, he is tearing the GOP in two right before our eyes!

The problem for Republicans will become very clear once Trump is not on the ticket. He was able to mobilize new voters without losing too many of the tribalist conservatives who have always formed the backbone of the contemporary Republican party. These people delivered statehouses and some district level races this year. However, there is no substitute for the Donald and when it becomes clear he will never again hold national power (likely because he will be in jail) the house of cards will tumble.
I think Republicans are in a much better position, and this is particularly true on the state/local level.

Dems always see the GOP's weakness as an opportunity to reward the powerful interests that support them rather than help the working class people they presume to represent. As a result, inevitable demographic decline of the GOP has been postponed indefinitely.
