Vanderbilt Falling Apart

Janessa, we have someone who has a pretty decent job, pays well. However, her scholarship is terrible. She can barely run a regression. Her JoP has HUGE errors in which the appendix flips the content of the article. Her most prominent research relies on an instrument of rain that supposedly prevents protest, but we have this thing called an umbrella revolution. She is almost always the most pompous in the room, caring about "theory" with the most dismissive tone. Her colleagues are sick of her. Why shouldn't we detract?
who the he11 are these Emily detractors and why aren’t they working on finding meaning in their lives?Wait people really use rain as an instrument? Always assumed that was just a joke.

The JoP detail merely illustrates that ER is a serious scholar who transparently reveals the full range of results. Ever heard of the publication bias, boys? Yes, it affects your work too. It affects all of ours. We need to push our models to the breaking point, and show the moments of breakage. As for the rain, that was a clever bit. Moves like that are how people make partner at the white shoes. You’ll catch up, though, I’m sure. Oh, and, without theory, there is nonsense and noise. This has been known for a long time, and it wasn’t political science that showed it to us.

I've only met ER once and she was very kind to me as a 3rd year grad student and she gave me a few good ideas about my dissertation. I know this doesn't really count for anything lol, but hey, if you are ER reading this, you were really kind to me once and I appreciated it!

who the he11 are these Emily detractors and why aren’t they working on finding meaning in their lives? As a recent grad from the program, I can assure you that none of this is true. I loved working with Emily and the notion that she is a subpar researcher is simply ridiculous.

Oh, she didn't tell you to check out the tables in the Appendix and compare them to the presentation in the piece? Interesting. As a recent grad of the program, you're fine with rain as an instrument?
@Geraldine: Of course she was sweet to a grad student. What could be more ego inflating than a grad student fawning on you?

Leave her alone. I've never heard any of these things about her and I am definitely in a position for it to have pinged my radar. If anything, I've found her helpful and friendly.
That’s the thing. ER doesn’t want to be left alone. She wants people to know how smart she is.

This isn't exactly a unique trait in our line of work. Grow up.
