Interesting, I wouldn't expect a bad economy to increase yield at top places, unless it's common to get into a top PhD and choose a different career?

You don't have to believe me. But based on the fact that you say you believe you have better options than a top 25 political science phd program both in and outside academia makes me suspect you either majored in econ or double majored in econ and poli sci. Given that top 25 is your cutoff, I can also guess that you don't go to a top school and are doing decently well.
In addition, your SOP will probably declare an interest in formal theory or methodology. Lastly, quite conceivable that at least one of your professors would comment on your lack of humility (e.g. "not open to criticism") in your letters.

What you need to stop is belittling others you consider beneath you. The worth of a person is orthogonal to their intellectual prowess or career success.

I'm not belittling anyone. I'm simply not going to apply to any sub-T25 program and that is all I said. You can infer what you want from my tone but I'm only responsible for what I say, not what you read between the lines. Thanks for answering my question though.

You're hopeless if you can't see the difference between "I am uninterested in pursuing a PhD at a program outside the top 25" and "No I don't care about your 'middling R1.' I'm not applying there anyway." Both substance and style matter when you communicate.
I see the difference, I'm just not going to watch my tone on an anonymous board. Especially if I'm talking to people I'd traditionally be expected to approach with submissive deference mainly just because they had a 20-year head start on me.
