One hidden perk: you are automatically given a TT appointment at the home institution (Duke, NYU, wherever) when your tour of duty is complete.
What's the deal with Duke-Kunshan university? They are hiring...

they do not pay well (38K-42K), but it's china and that's more than enough.
this is just wrong, they pay way more, dont know why u make that up. there is one Columbia phd and one NYU phd going there this fall now, both of them non-asian so i guess they dont speak chinese. check them out if u are serious abt the position.
Yes confirmed, desperation has already started happening.

Another hidden perk, you are at the mercy of the Chinese regulation of "free" speech, where you can deny the virus exists, and disappear doctors that give the world an early warning. How many scholars in China doing critical work about the Chinese government? 0
At least you get to eat at the wet markets and endanger humanity. Great perk. Talk about great location. If another virus comes you can minimise distance to it.

Well independent of the virus, China does have a history of covering up the truth. I would not advice any serious political scientist to be at the mercy of the Chinese Ministry of Education and the local Wuhan Education Board; they clearly represent the bastion of democracy and free speech.

how many people successfully get a tt job in the states after spending a few years in these "global" campus? looks like a dead-end.
The problem is that you think the goal is to use this job or jobs like this to move back to the US. Maybe DKU isn't the best permanent option, but there are other academic markets that are increasingly more appealing relative to the US.

Yes. Not everyone’s goal is to get a tt job in Podunk, USA.

Sure, they wouldn’t have any homegrown full profs. But you’d think they would try hard to attract some from elsewhere.
They do seem to pay APs well, especially given the cost of living which is way lower than Shanghai and way way lower than anywhere in the US. But how come they don’t have any senior faculty? No full prof as far as I can tell.
The institution is about 5-6 years old.
