Does Wofford really expect faculty to teach 7 courses a year? Forget the whole interim term, that equals a 3-4.
Is Wofford really equidistant between an R1 and a CC?
This is a standard teaching load for many small liberal arts colleges, particularly those that focus on teaching and that do not have high expectations for research. A few of my former doctoral students are teaching at similar schools and are enjoying their careers, which are focused more on teaching than research. It is not my cup of tea, but there are many new Ph.D.s who would be happy to work with good students in a primarily-teaching environment.
OP here. I'm at a similar place, but it's 3-3. If you do anything more, it's extra.
3-3 at a SLAC is not easy work. Grading and service are huge time sucks. Being required to show up to campus 4-5 days a week during winter term, or taking students somewhere and babysitting for a few weeks, seems a bit much. You need some winddown time after all the fall semester teaching, grading, advising, and service.
