And I'll be the first to argue that output isn't everything, but no publications beyond a co-edited volume 8 years post-PhD and with that amount of resources? If Rawls is the comparison you want to make (which, rofl), then even he was doing better.
He got the job --and will get tenure-- for the obvious, visible reason.
As for KM, cant think of a more mediocre record that somehow can get tenure at Yale with almost nothing and then full at Columbia.
Problem with these top Ivy programs is that they sacrifice quality for the sake of saying "we poached X person from Harvard/Yale/Columbia/Princeton."
For PT at least, the cliche of Yale isnt that good actually does apply; esp. with no quality senior hires.

Basically BT was supposed to be denied at Harvard and crash-land somewhere, instead he's been allowed to reset the clock at Yale. Why though?

False. He's not even Assoc. at Harvard yet. He still has years on his clock. Plenty of years.
Who is this?
The person BT replaces is now a full professor at Columbia with...one book of 160 pages (her PhD dissertation) and two articles in 14 years. Oh, she also published three chapters in three edited volumes put together by her friends and colleagues. This is her publication record in 14 years. They tenured her at Yale and now she's full at Columbia. It looks like the "accomplishment" dispute goes far beyond the specific case of BT.
